A colorfully illustrated story that builds character...

This is the poetic tale of a chicken, who feeling unappreciated,decides that she can do it all. For years she has laid the eggs but the bunny has gotten the glory. When confronted with the chicken's plan, the bunny offers a warning. Undaunted the chicken procedes with zeal. Illustrator, Emma Overman, has captured the chicken's emotions of pride, longing, joy and frustration. The story by Lisa Funari Willever and Lorraine Funari has been useful as I work with small groups of children who are learning the skills of team work. As a school psychologist, I often use stories to introduce an idea or a skill. The Easter Chicken, with its colorful illustrations and character building lesson has been added to my library.

Bright and colorfully illustrated by Emma Ovreman, Lisa and Lorraine Funari's The Easter Chicken tales the tale of a chicken who becomes envious of the Eater Bunny's fame. Overcome by jealousy, she hastily fires the Easter Bunny and decides that she will handle Easter by herself. But the job is too much work for just one chicken! She quickly realizes that everyone has certain talents and that working as a team is the best way to work. Two pages of text designated "Special Guest Young Author & Illustrator Section" have been specifically reserved for the express purpose of publishing the reader's own work making The Easter Chicken a truly delightful, "interactive" picturebook.

I came upon this author's work a few months ago. Let me tell you...Uncle Tommy has scored big points giving a couple of her books as gifts to little ones (including The Easter Chicken.) The books have entertaining stories with very colorful pages that kids love. They've been very well received by the parents, too.

About the Author
Sudhir Anand was born in Punjab, India. He has resided in the United States since 1966. Trained as a physician he is presently a professor of pediatrics at the UCLA School of Medicine. He became interested in the Hindu religion at an early age and studied the religion from several eminent teachers. During his college years in India, he spent time in a Gurukul, a Hindu monastery, furthering his understanding of the essential beliefs of the Hindu religion. He currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife and two children.

The Hindu Religion in a nutshell...

This book is an excellent starter book for anyone interested in the hindu religion. It was short and easy to understand, but gave even a beginner like myself, a rich guide into the hindu religion. I was really suprised to find that most of my conceptions of the religion were very different from facts. The book translated many vedic mantras, which are the holy books of the religion, to english in a helpful, understandable manner. I quite enjoyed the read because it didn't really have the feel of a textbook, and it gave me a deep insight and understanding into the hindu religion.

No good works can get you to Heaven

The East India Company did not want missionaries in India. They were not hand in glove with the British Empire. There were many missionaries who help get rid of Sati , Temple Prostitution, Child Marriage and Human sacrifices. God did not father a child. The Holy Spirit help Mary conceive . Why is this inconceivable. You talk about reincarnation and that we become animals and plants?!!!! The Gospel is very simple.
God sent His only son, to die on the cross, to take away the sins of the world. It is finished!!! Just believe in Him, repent and you will eternal life in Heaven forever. Every one has sinned as is a sinner. No good works can get you to Heaven. No matter how much we try. God did it all. The Bible can be trusted. Its the only Holy book which has 250000 manuscripts . It is historically accurage and even archaeology proves it. Also the number of changed lives. The Bible has all the answers to lifes questions woes and ills. Why are we here, Where are we going etc. Give Christ a chance. REad the Bible , call out to Him , the Truth will set you free. There are people who in the name of Christianity did horrible things. But dont judge an institution by its abuse. A lot of religions are trying to change with the times, but Christianity is the only one, where going back to the basics transforms lives. It is not a Western religion. Its the only religion where the founder is resurrected and is still alive.

Beautifully simple.

I read the book about the Mongan method, and it gave me a wonderful introduction to birth hypnosis and why I didn't need to fear birth. The Mongan exercises were so complicated, however, that even though I started reasonably early, they just weren't a good match for me, and once again, a little anxiety set in. I still recommend Mongan, because there was so much valuable information presented, but this recording was much simpler in its approach to the exercises, that someone else could surely benefit from a combination of the two even with a looming due date. The picture on the CD cover made me wonder about the quality of the material because the woman is so glamorous, and it seems like the marketing is targeting the fathers instead of the mothers. Or, perhaps I was supposed to look at it and say "I want to be THAT woman". I would have been more appropriately drawn in by a picture of a pregnant cat, considering how easily they tend to give birth. Regardless, the recording helped immensely.

Relief I needed!

While I found it difficult to find the time to listen to the tape without one of my other children trying to find me...I have no doubt the skills I learned helped me.
I had very difficult pregnancies, labors and births. I really thought I was making them worse than they had to be by worrying so much. The tapes really helped to relieve my anxiety. I liked his voice and his methods. There were a couple things I had mental hiccups about...like not thinking of pain when I heard the word labor.
I wasn't at all worried when I went in during this last labor and it was fast and easy. Power of prayer, positive thinking and hypnosis!

Great for wine tasting parties!

Bought this for a very large group wine tasting dinner . . I used the trivia as great conversation starter. There are many great quotes & stories to share, especially for "toasting" Good Champaign info, too! Very enjoyable reading . . will use this one many times over.

Full-bodied and flavorful with a real bite

Bubbling over like champagne, as wicked as Brie and chocolate-covered strawberries, Malcolm Kushner's marvelous humor book on wine demands to be sniffed, sipped, and imbibed with pleasure. Drinking in this book on wine will make you feel tipsy without the consequences. As Kushner says in the section Everything I Know I Learned from Drinking Wine: A loaded person is more dangerous than a loaded gun. That said, a glass or two of young Beaujolias or White Zin goes perfectly with this book.

Kushner swirls his own witticisms, his musings on what would happen if famous authors wrote about wine (especially funny are Joan Rivers on Chablis and Dr. Seuss on Champagne: "I do not like it / Cham I am / I do not like / That pagne of cham"), trivia, trivia quizzes and humorous quizzes, and his real-life clips of studies on the mental benefits of drinking wine with quips and quotes from the drunk and the famous.

There's plenty of silliness in a glass of wine, and Kushner saves most of his wickedness for the pretentious tasters, the wine connoisseurs and the sommeliers (that's wine servers for the uninitiated).

New Yorker cartoons, like the heady aroma of a newly opened bottle of Napa Valley wine, add a delicious flavor to this humorous collection.
