This "Field Guide" is an absolutely beautiful book. If you share a passion for hostas, love their tidy growth and fascinating leaf patterns, and wish to learn more, I cannot recommend a more useful book! Definitely worth the price! Enjoy!

Top Choice for Hostas

If hostas are your thing, then this book is a great find. A fair amount of background info on searching for hostas in their natural habitat which may not be of interest to everyone seeking to grow a good variety of these useful perennials in their gardens. Very good info on growth habits, cultivation, pests/diseases and propagation/division. A bit oddly organized, but the index of plant names allows you to find every cultivar mentioned. Most popular hostas and their sports/offspring are mentioned and many are photographed. This is a terrific book and my first choice when seeking information on very specific cultivars, their growth rate, size, etc. VERY helpful in identifying which hosta to use in any specific location. This book was very helpful in basic identification of some hostas I planted -- I knew the names of the plants, but didn't know which was which until researching them in this book. This is definitely a 5-star find! The only negatives: the price on this book is quite steep and other books will likely prove more helpful if seeking photos showcasing unique and attractive ways to display/grow hostas in the garden.

The photography is excellent and addresses all the standard varieties, many of the sports, and a ever expanding list of new hybrids. This book can help you avoid buying hostas that maybe unsuitable for your particular garden conditions or tastes. A must read for hosta lovers.
