When I transferred to L&D after 15 years, I went looking for a little reference book like the one I had carried in ER. Not finding one, I decided to write one. It started off small, just a few notes scribbled on paper, but it GREW! I found friends and co-workers wanted copies of my little "cheat sheets." My husband, a flight paramedic, found use for it on the helicopter too. We started a class for field providers, flight nurses, paramedics and EMTs. This little project has turned into an obsession and L&D In My Pocket is the result. I hope you will find it as indispensable as I do.

Absolutely indispensible

This should be required for all new L&D nurses as well as doulas who do a lot of hospital births. Excellent "cheat sheet" book for nurses who need to understand what to do/give or doulas who want to inform their clients (of course, because doulas would never treat, diagnose or prescribe anything as they are not medical professionals). I loved the Spanish language section in the back, esp the words for breastfeeding. They thought of everything for this handy little guide!

The journey of grief . . . .

In her book, A TIME TO MOURN, A TIME TO DANCE, Margaret Metzgar gently and with such beauty in her words and photography, shares how to emotionally heal from a loss. This isn't just a step by step book on how to deal with grief--this is a book about losses, and what to expect as we work through the pain until we're on the other side. Until I read this book, it never dawned on me that we experience losses all the time! In a sense, we experience grief every day; the loss of a job or a pet, of being a homeowner, or being a full-time wife and mother, or having a friend move away. Loss isn't just about when a loved one passes away. Read A TIME TO MOURN, A TIME TO DANCE, and enjoy the words to help you or a friend heal from a life's many losses.

Thank you for a beautiful book

One of the things I appreciate the most about this book is that it talks about so many kinds of losses, not just death. It made it feel like an OK part of life. It was an easy read and the photography added to the very peaceful feel. I would recomend this book to anyone experiencing any kind of change or loss in their life. The section on children was also exceptional.

The small church that I was serving closed the doors to worship in November. I found this book among items to be discarded -- brought it home and read it. Really liked how it addressed the many different ways that we experience loss -- not just through death. I read another book with a similar title and found it had too much detail. This book was comforting and to the point. Bought this copy to share with a family member who has lost all the members of her immediate family over the past 12 years. My hope is that it will help her as much as it did me.

The story of Kaluaikoolau (or Koolau) is one of Kauai's great legends. In 1892, after learning that he and his young son had contracted leprosy, Koolau fled with his family deep into Kalalau Valley. In June 1893 Koolau shot and killed a sherif and two Provisional Government soldiers who had been sent to arrest him. He vowed never to be taken alive and became a powerful symbol of resistance for many Hawaiians in the years following the overthrow of Queen Liliuokalani.

The story of Koolau's last years, as narrated by his devoted wife, Piilani, was published in Hawaiian in 1906. In this volume, the Hawaiian text is preceded by an English translation that successfully retains the poetic imagery and figurative language of the original. Many writers have attempted to tell Koolau's story, but none have been able to match the simple grace and poignancy of Piilani's narrative. It is one of only a handful of historical accounts by a native Hawaiian.

I already heard about this story before but I was excited when I found this book so I could read about it in its entirety, and from the wife herself. It was a great book and I'm glad I bought it, I very much love Hawaii and its history.

Clear, easy-to-follow lesson plans and great music -- a winner for teachers and young students alike! Seasonal themes will appeal to kids (and who could resist the "Bug Squash Walk"! )
While you don't need a Dalcroze background to appreciate this book, it's a welcome and inspiring addition to the literature for Dalcroze educators.

I was familiar with Dalcroze having read a bit about the method and observed several classes. When I wanted to incorporate those concepts into my teaching, I was a little stuck. This book was a perfect introduction. There was a little Dalcroze theory, and a lot of practical advice. I found I could take as much or as little of the lesson plans as I wanted. If you teach music to young children, this is a great source for new ideas, even if you're not familiar with the Dalcroze philosophy.

I love this book

I love this book, it's well-used and worn, and a staple with my classes. Great activities, great sequencing, authentically Dalcroze. Ms. Dale has written easy-to-follow lesson plans, with notes to the sides that reflect her experience in classroom with different populations. The stories really do engage the imaginations of children in my classrooms, from age 3 1/2 to 7 (modified for their age, of course). Fantastic resource.

Chapter 7: Details about how to make and apply exterior siding from the log supply using a small sawmill, after a brief description of types of siding options, including how to install the siding for both the first and second stories.

I am in the process of building my own post and beam home with lumber we are pioneering from our own property.

I've gathered far more than the information contained in this book using great on-line resources and discussion forums on wood milling and my partner and I are both skilled enough to complete significantly better designs and plans than this author.

The book appears to be a self-published. It would have maybe been worth a 99 cent download of an e-book, but hardly worth the nearly $17 when I would have rather spent it on some more prefessional books here on Amazon.

Great if you know nothing about construction and cannot figure out how to use the A9 or Google searches to get the same information. Save your money. Buy a post and beam construction book that has real information and photos in it.
