Walks you through an in-depth but easy Geography course!

This is an incredible book. Covers so much and yet captures the student's attention and keeps it because it EXPLAINS instead of just provides information. Lots of hands-on activities make learning more concrete and understandable for students. There is a list on each side of the page of words that have a definition next to them - this can be used as a vocabulary list and the definition is already there (there is a vocabulary list included in each section). Nice color photos throughout. A section of review questions are included in each section. But it is the hands-on activities (and lots of them) that cement this as my new favorite geography book to use with students.

I could teach this course with only a basic understandings of physical geography in my background - so no prior knowledge is needed. Very well laid out lesson plans with excellent examples that students (grades 4 or so and up) can grasp on to and understand. For example, here is a paragraph from page 2:

"There are about four hundred billion stars in the Milky Way. The distances between the stars are so great that scientists had to create a new term for describing them. We think of distance here on earth in terms of minutes, hours or days it takes to get from one place to another. But in space, the distances have to be measured in years or, more specifically, in light years. Scientists measure distance in space by how far light travels in a year. So how fast is light? Light travels at 186,000 miles (299,329 km) per second! If you were driving sixty miles per hour, it would take over 129 days driving twenty-four hours a day to travel 186,000 miles, yet light travles this far in one second. To reach ALpha Centauri, the star closest to our sun, you would have to travel at the speed of light for 4.5 years. At this time, traveling even close to the speed of light is impossible. We cannot even explore all of our own galaxy, let alone travel to the next one which is three million light years away."

The author is not only very knowledgeable about geography, but is a master story-teller too who weaves interesting facts and information in such a way that everyone listening or reading learns without even trying. THAT is the highest achievement an educator/author can be crowned with!

Best geography book ever

This geography book was meant to be the first in a series on geography. It covers only physical geography, as that is the part that hardly changes. Little is mentioned of political or cultural geography except as to how borders are often drawn and how environment effects culture. The questions always have 2-4 review questions on important material from previous lessons. Sometimes called the Saxon math book of geography, the book's style is much like Saxon. Colorful relevant diagrams, charts, photos, and exercises are present in good locations. There are no cartoon turtles or foxes to tell the story as dumbed down texts use. If you follow this method, your students will know this material and retain it.

I wish the publisher had continued the series. I talked with Ms. Runkle, and she mentioned that there was supposed to have been a volume on each continent or set of continents for future years. Apparently, the publisher felt one year was all America could stomach, regardless of what surveys show of our culture's geographic illiteracy.

This book would be suitable for high school geography credit with the addition of report assignments. Without the writing assignments, it is good for middle school upwards, something I never say {student books that cover six years of ability}.

I did supplement with Youtube videos for the students to be able to see in motion volcanic action, river erosion, atmospheric events such as hurricanes, tornadoes, etc.

This book is a VERY easy read. It gets right to the point about the history, current activity, etc..

This book is more of an overview of ghostly happenings rather than an in depth investigation.

I found this book "helpful" in my adventure to Salem for Halloween '06.

Not very honest book

I had terrible experience with contractors who got the highest recommendation by to Elizabeth Franklin Report. I found them irresponsible and unreliable. They simply didn't show up for work! And then they didn't want to return the money. I think it is better to use friend's recommendation than this book!

Conventional hypnoanalysis often appears to fail - usually because the therapist has not the training to recognise that he or she is using it for the 'wrong' type of symptom or the 'wrong' sort of client, more of which later. Hypnoanalysis is a relatively brief therapy, when taking into account the type of problem for which it is normally employed as a work methodology. The problem is that the oft-quoted 'eight to ten sessions' format is really only applicable when working within certain parameters - and there are many clients and their presenting problems who fall outside these guidelines. The advantage of the work methodology that we are looking at here is that it is far more versatile; its disadvantage is that we are not looking at a truly brief therapy here - we are looking at getting the client better and the timescale is going to vary enormously according to the client personality type and presenting difficulty. In any case, a conscientious therapist should completely ignore the "I can fix that in two sessions, what on earth are you doing?" brigade - therapy should never be a race. Useful but a little on the expensive side

I bought this book as I was considering the possibility of getting my cute little boy into the world of baby modeling and I want to know what I was getting myself into. When I received this book it is a little on thin side but it is still crammed with masses of information and helpful hints and tips. Personally this book helped me make the decision that I shall not be following this up as a career for my little one as although it is possible to do it anywhere not being in NY or LA or a couple of other big cities can really limit your chances. I do however think that for the size of book the price could be halved, but I guess if your little one makes it big in the world of modeling it is a small price to pay. I would recommend this book to all who are thinking about this area for there kids.

Folks, this is more of a pamphlet than it is a book. It's 87 pages filled with large type and generous spaces between paragraphs and chapters. Remember when you were a kid and had to write a 20 page essay and you'd try to trick your teacher by making it look like 20 pages when it wasn't? That's exactly what this book is trying to do. I was going to return it to Amazon because I felt so cheated but I missed their 30 day grace period. The little information that this guide has is helpful but I felt the author could have added so much more to it. More personal insights on the business, more journal excerpts, etc. If you're serious about baby modeling and you've got $13 burning a hole is your pocket then by all means purchase this book. Otherwise, don't waste your money and buy something with a little more substance.

Important information for hiking Stein Valley

Recommended for anyone exploring Stein Valley. Some information is a bit dated, in particular the directions to the Blowdown pass trail head. From the paved road the turnoff is marked with a sign for Blowdown Creek. Follow the unpaved road until you reach a sharp left hand turn (less than a mile). There is a large sign indicating you are in a active logging area an to check in with the site manager. There were also logging equipment and parked trucks of logging workers. After contacting the site foreman/manager proceed to the RIGHT, past the sign. This is the road that leads past the old silver mine and to the parking area Gordon White talks of when entering via Blowdown . If you follow that sharp turn to the left you will in in a new logging area, not where you want to be. Road to the parking lot is in excellent shape, easy for two wheel drive cars. After the parking lot (just a wide spot in the road with a big log laid over to one side) the road quickly becomes more difficult, but passable with a sturdy 4 wheel drive. Few spots for an easy turn around though once you hit your limiting factor be vehicular, or nerves/common sense. Have FUN! This is excellent information, but always be thoughtful and use common sense. We hiked in June 10, 2013. The mile on either side of pass still had significant snow covering, but was passable. After about a two day hike there will be an unimproved campsite (just a fire pit and a few large rocks for sitting). It is next to a washed out bridge. We did not attempt to cross the stream and followed the newer trail leading upward. From there it is a easy day`s hike to an improved campsite (bear box, picnic table and toilet), but not an easy hike. We did not have time to go much further though.

Of corse this is a great book, but I am sure the newer version (not offered on Amazon) is much better.

About the Author

Arthur Slade was raised in the Cypress Hills of southwest Saskatchewan and began writing at an early age. He received an English Honours degree from the University of Saskatchewan, spent several years writing advertising and now writes fiction full-time. He is the author of the Canadian Chills series of books, Dust (which won the Governor General's award), Tribes, and Monsterology. He currently lives in Saskatoon.

Well done

Over the past year I have read all but one of Arthur Slade's books. This is the only non-fiction and it was a compelling read. I must admit, before reading this book, I knew very little about Diefenbaker, the man, the myths or the legend. This book explores all three aspects of the man's life and legacy. The book was very well written, it was compelling and I had a hard time putting it down. Though not a conservative myself, I found after reading this book that I had a much greater respect and appreciation for Diefenbaker.

Arthur Slade did an amazing job presenting a man, who is a legend in Canadian politics and history, in a way readers will appreciate and admire. The writing is excellent and the pace of the story great. It spans almost 85 years of history in less than 200 pages and yet you do not feel like there were major gaps. After reading this, as much as I love Slade's fiction, I can only hope he will try his hand at nonfiction again soon.

I would highly recommend this book for all musicians and songwriters. At first I was skeptical as I have read other books about marketing music on the internet. But this one was very detailed and showed all the steps involved, and pulled no punches about the need for discipline. Mark W. Curran covers all the bases, and even includes ways to promote your band offline and offline, so that your online sales will be increased. There are some great resources in the back, also, and the book includes detailed screen shots on how to perform marketing tasks and to set up a daily marketing schedule. Good show, very good book.

An excellent guide...

Even if this book goes a little far with some of the marketing ideas, it doesn't matter; it's throwing ideas around that you CAN take on board rather than must. More importantly the book is inspiring - for an independent musician it can be a depressing thing to face the fact that it can be hard to get your music out and sold. This book firmly states that you can do it, and then goes about explaining how to do just that.

Being based around the Internet, some of the details are outdated, for example some web services the author recommends are no longer available, though this is not an issue as there are alternatives - you just have to do a bit of searching.

What matters about this book are the ideas it puts forward to help the indie musicians get their music out to the world, and it does this spectacularly. Highly recommended read.
