Of historical interest but out of date and no longer in use

For years, this book served its purpose well for the parishes of the pastoral provision in the United States. However, this book is now suppressed and has been replaced by "Divine Worship: The Missal" (ISBN 978 1 78469 020 5) effective Advent Sunday 2015. Please do not confuse the two. The new Divine Worship liturgy developed by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and the Congregation for Divine Worship and Discipline of the Sacraments for use by Ordinariate parishes throughout the world, while similar, is something quite different. Quoting Msgr Steenson, Ordinary of the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of Saint Peter, writing about the newer book: "It is not a Protestant service dressed up as a Catholic Mass." That would, however, be an apt description of the BDW liturgy. If you do choose to purchase this edition of the BDW, do so for historical interest. Going forward, however, the Ordinariates now have, in the replacement book "Divine Worship: The Missal", "the Catholic Mass of the western rite, filtered through the Anglican experience, corrected and expressed in an Anglican voice."

Update on Book of Divine Worship

The first review expresses regret that this book can only be used by congregations that receive permission from the local Latin Rite bishop "which is seldom granted."
Now that Pope Benedict has created a special ordinariate for Anglican Use Catholics in the United States this will no longer be a problem. The present book is out of print. Presumably a new edition will be printed for the new ordinariate.

A great treasure of the Roman Catholic Church

This is the principle liturgical source for the 'Anglican Use.' For those of you who haven't heard of it, the Anglican Use is a pastoral provision in the Catholic Church that allows for an Anglican parish that converts to Catholicism to retain elements of the Anglican liturgical and spiritual tradition. Sadly, Anglican parishes seeking to become Anglican-Use-Catholic ones need the approval of the local Catholic bishop, which is almost never given.
This book contains the order of mass plus all the collects (opening prayers) and secrets (prayers over the gifts) throughout the year. It also contains the order of matins and vespers and has two psalters in the back -- one Coverdale (archaic language) and the other in contempory English.
The binding is quite beautiful and the text is very well set out and is easy to read. Its only real let-down is that it is physically quite bulky and cumbersome.
