In a joyous, enthusiastic spirit that reflects the nature of their subject, the Heaths, who operate the Daffodil Mart, a national supply house, offer a compendium of daffodils, which is the common name for the genus Narcissus. Abundant photographs blend with clearly detailed information to demonstrate the great variety of this "carefree, pest-free, drought-tolerant, diverse and beautiful group of plants" and their suitability to growing zones ranging from Northwest Canada to the Southwest U.S. (and to a growing season longer than usually considered). Chapters move from "Daffodil Anatomy" through their culture (including regional recommendations), naturalizing, forcing and growing for exhibition, to miniatures and companion plantings. An extensive, alphabetical list of cultivars, each with a photo, wraps up this handsome reference/gift book. Mail-order sources and a bibliography are also included.

From Library Journal
This is a well-conceived guidebook and reference manual to one of the most popular flowers of all time. Although many how-to gardening books treat the narcissus family in brief, few in-depth titles are available. Included here is a compendium of recommended commercial types with photos, regional lists, and supplier information. The authors?operators of one of the top daffodil nurseries in the United States?also review the history and botany of the daffodil, its industry, how to create hybrids, growing and presenting show-winning blooms, and detailed instructions for forcing in winter. Beginners will be encouraged, and enthusiasts will gleefully make notes. For all gardening collections.?Sue Gardner, Albert Wisner P.L., Warwick, N.Y.

From Booklist
The first appearance in spring of fragrant, spirited daffodils rarely fails to delight gardeners or gardeners' neighbors. The Heaths' beautifully illustrated introduction to the genus Narcissus (daffodils) is characterized by an unbridled enthusiasm for these flowers in all their many forms and variations. A satisfactory overview of the 12 divisions of daffodils and their anatomy and culture is followed by chapters providing information on hybridizing, forcing bulbs for early bloom in the home, companion plantings for the garden, and growing daffodils for exhibition. Numerous photographs in this appealing book show recommended cultivars within each division, and are accompanied by their descriptions. Alice Joyce

Everything you need to know
By Bull Run Bear
If you have any interest in daffodils this is the book for you. Wonderful pictures that show the blooms' diversity, growing and planting times and procedures, which varieties have the best scent, how best to choose your bulbs, etc. A great book to browse during the winter and to learn from all the year.
